Lyrics
It can be hard for mom to wake the children up
Other days without a fight, they pop right up!
There’s no rhyme or reason for this it’s been said
It’s hard to tell why they linger in the bed
Tonight is Christmas Eve, it’s very cold outside
We’ve hidden all the presents or at least we tried
Guess the weatherman was wrong, not a single flake
Mom peeks in on the kids,” Yikes,” they’re still awake!
So quiet as a mouse, she creeps back down the stairs
She knows they’ll drift off soon, well that’s her silent prayer
If they don’t get sleep, this place will be a zoo and
It may be hard to wake them up when morning light breaks through
It’s a special morning, don’t need a wake-up call
Kids ’ll be excited to see the gifts and all
Dreaming and snoring, the parents sawing logs
It seems the best-laid plans are wrecked by too much nog!
So, guess what happened next as the kids rolled out of bed
They ran into their parents’ room and this is what they said:
"Wake up, wake up, you sleepy heads! Look, it’s almost light?
We know we heard some bumping and some stirring in the night
Wake up, wake up, it’s Christmas Day," said the kiddies to their folks
"You know that we’ve been very good, so rise and shine, slowpokes"
“We want to go downstairs and look, we know that Santa came
There has to be a puppy and a new bike,” they exclaim!
"Wake up, wake up, you sleepyheads, wake up, it’s Christmas Day!
Don’t you know it’s Christmas Day?"
